The American Legion Sumter Post 15, a nonprofit organization Chartered in 1919, strives to promote a better understanding of the principles of democracy and to inculcate among all people a higher appreciation of the benefits of American citizenship. To serve the needs of all veterans, their families and the community within. To fulfill our commitment to community, state, and nation. Sumter Post 15 and SUMTER city/county officials long have recognized that Sumter Post 15 is essential to the revitalization of the city itself to include:
- Getting to know neighbors in business and social settings
- Showcase Sumter County Civic Center & The American Legion Fair Grounds
- Support Sumter Pee Dee Area Council /Boy Scout Troop 339 (since 1928)
- Preserve and continue the growth of the Four County Regional Fair, American Legion Post 15 Fair(Circa 1916) HOSTING SUMTER, LEE, CLARENDON & KERSHAW COUNTIES
- Partake and be instrumental in tourism events, to include the City of Sumter / Sumter County major annual events to include but not limited to; American Legion Post 15 Baseball (Circa 1929) whose Home Field is at the Sumter Riley Park. The American Legion Post 15 Four County Regional Fair. The American Legion Fairgrounds upkeep and promotes on-going tourism events such as a destination for BBQ Cookoffs, Food Truck Festivals, Circus Venues, Multi-State Boy Scout campouts and other Community events.
Sumter Post 15 success depends entirely on active membership, participation and volunteerism. The organization belongs to the people it serves and the communities in which it thrives.
